PROJECT M.A.E. (BEEKEEPING IMPROVEMENT IN ETHIOPIA) Parodi Foundation and Zembaba Bee Product Development and Marketing Cooperative Union, the largest cooperative union for producers of honey and other bee products in Ethiopia, together with the United States Agency for International Development, (USAID); carry out this project in order to implement activities with value chain actors to improve market intelligence and develop market linkage models that link specific actors in transactions.
• This Project uses mechanism like in-advance contracts, integrated systems and financing of value chains which let the interested people to make more efficient and profitable deals and to promote competitive exportation qualities in Ethiopia..
• By increasing the supplied of quality beekeeping products (specially honey and wax) and the income to improve the lifestyle of small beekeepers
• Parodi Foundation will provide equipment for the processing of beekeeping products for a processing plant together with the support of USAID for the project AGP-AMDe.
• This way, the production of honey and other pr5oducts to export will be increased, and by implementing organic certification, a big potential trade is projected.
• It is also planned in the short term to update the processing of products and the beekeeping deals between individual members of Zembaba Cooperative Union.
• The following stage will be to provide technical support to producers in the form of modern beehives and training in how to use them, including a beehive course.
• Besides, it is planned to establish a new private company in Ethiopia that would engage in honey processing, including a long-term business arrangement, ideally with the Zemababa Cooperative Union as a joint owner.
